Ian Willms is a Toronto-based independent photographer who has worked for such publications and clients as Village Voice Media, The Toronto Star, The National Post, Nasdaq's GlobeNewswire and Canwest News Service. Ian graduated with Honours from the Loyalist College’s Photojournalism program in 2008 and has been be the honorary recipient of numerous photojournalism awards, most recently a 2nd place in the in the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) Best Photojournalism of 2010 Competition in the category of ‘Domestic Picture Story’ for his work in Detroit. Over the course of Ian’s photographic career, his mission to expose a deeper truth of social and political inequality in its many forms has lead him through abandoned industrial spaces, into the homes of exiled strangers, and on a tireless search to illuminate a deeper understanding of human frailty and the impermanence of society as we know it.
